Commentary

And when that day becomes great as a warning from it, and He increased its greatness by following it with the saying, indicating by the estimation of "I mean," informing that denial of it in the sight of all creatures is a disgrace unlike any other disgrace: ﴿The Day when﴾ that is, standing ﴿the people﴾ that is, everyone who is capable of movement, and that is the Day of Resurrection, fifty thousand years, He does not look at them, glorified is He - narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Kabir from Abdullah ibn Amr, who raised it, and its narrators are trustworthy ﴿for the Lord of the worlds﴾ that is, for the sake of the judgment of the Creator of the creatures and their Sustainer, He does not forget anyone of their provision nor neglect them in His judgment, nor is He pleased with the oppression of anyone among those He sustains, for He provides for each one according to the judgment of nurturing. All of this is from the inquiry of denial, and all of it is suspicion, and He described the day with what He described and other than that for the purpose of conveying the prohibition against cheating and the magnification of its sin. And al-Hakim narrated from the narration of Abdullah ibn Buraidah from his father, may Allah be pleased with him, who raised it: "No people broke the covenant except that He appointed against them their enemy, and when they ruled by other than what Allah, the Exalted, revealed, poverty spread among them, and when immorality appeared among them, death spread among them, and they did not cheat in the measure except that vegetation was withheld from them and they were afflicted with years of drought, and they did not withhold the zakat except that rain was withheld from them." And from the route of Ata ibn Abi Rabah from Abdullah ibn Amr, raised similarly, and for al-Tabarani from the route of al-Dahhak from Mujahid and Tawus from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, raised similarly.
