Commentary
And when there is no blessing greater than gloating over the enemy, especially when it is at the highest levels of gloating, Allah, the Most High, said: "So today". This means that as a result of their actions in the abode of deeds, they will be in the abode of recompense. "Those who believed" even if they were at the lowest ranks of faith, "from the disbelievers" specifically, and they are the steadfast in disbelief among the generality of those who have committed crimes, in the gathering and the paradise, as mockery and ridicule. For indeed, those who believed do not laugh at the sinners among the believers if they see them being punished, but they have mercy on them due to their shared faith. "They laugh" as a form of retribution and recompense when they see what they are in of humiliation, rejoicing in their condition, thanking Allah for what He has granted them of salvation from the Fire and vengeance from their enemies. Abu Salih said: The doors will be opened for them, and it will be said: 'Come out,' and they will rush forth. But when they reach the doors, they will be closed in their faces, and they will be returned in the worst state. Then the believers will laugh - it has ended. And how great is the disappointment and shame, the darkness of the face, the anguish of the heart, and the reproach of the self from the punishment of the Fire and from gloating and disgrace, while those who believed are kings.
