Commentary
And what is the case that they were not sent from any messenger upon them? This is specifically for those who have believed, so that they may have this concern for them in their homes and outside of them when they pass by and otherwise. They are guardians, meaning they are deeply rooted in preserving the deeds of those who have believed. Their engagement with them has reached such a level that they are considered among the neglected and disregarded, as they claim. So what is this thorough consideration of their conditions, even if they are counted among those who are looked at and cared for? Let them clarify the corruption of their state in a manner that is acceptable to reason, and let there be evidence for it, or let them follow them; otherwise, they are unaware of the places of reform and how to handle matters properly. How deserving they are of the saying of the poet: 'Sa'd brought them forth, and Sa'd is full of them; this is not how you bring forth, O Sa'd, the camels.'
