Commentary

And when he described them in the places of hesitation and fluctuation, he described them in the homes, saying: ﴿And when they returned﴾ meaning those who committed wrong returned willingly to their families, meaning their homes which are populated by their community. ﴿They returned﴾ while they were ﴿delighted﴾ meaning enjoying to the utmost what was within their capacity and their elevation which led them to seek help from others. Ibn Burjan said: And it was mentioned about him, blessings and peace be upon him: "Indeed, the religion began strange and will return [strange] - just as it began, the one who holds onto his religion will be like one holding onto a hot coal." And in another narration: "The believer among them will be more humiliated than the community." And in another: "The world among them is more foul than the carcass of a donkey." - So Allah is the One sought for help.
