And when He described their bliss, He informed that they are known by their traits in it [they are recognized by it] to every observer of them. So He, the Most High, said: ﴿You will recognize﴾, meaning, O observer of them - this is according to the reading of the majority. Abu Ja'far and Ya'qub read it in the passive form, which is more indicative of the generality. ﴿In their faces﴾ when they are seen ﴿is the brightness of bliss﴾, meaning its joy, radiance, beauty, shine, and freshness, from the blooming of plants - when they blossom and illuminate. Al-Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The brightness is in the face and the joy is in the heart.
