Commentary
And when there is nothing more delightful for a person than something high upon which he sits and extends his gaze to what he desires of what is with Him, He said, clarifying that bliss: "Upon thrones" meaning the high beds. With this - the absolute elevation in the curtains, which thought is exhausted in describing due to its elevation from the inlay of pearls and rubies and other things that cannot be encompassed. "They look" meaning to what they desire of gardens, rivers, maidens, and boys. They have no occupation other than that and what resembles it from the pleasures. And Imam al-Qushayri said: He affirmed the gaze but did not clarify what is being looked at due to their differences: Some of them look at their palaces, and some of them look at their maidens, and some of them and so on. The special ones continuously look towards Allah, the Exalted, just as the wicked are always veiled from their Lord.
