And when this was, it may have implied that they see all of their punishment at that time. He negated it by saying: ﴿No﴾, meaning it is not the totality, but it is an individual from the kind. For this reason, the kind acted upon it, which is their abode, and the matter is more profound and greater than can be encompassed by description. And when he mentioned what is for the disbelievers from the punishment that was brought upon them by their inclination towards the worldly life, beginning with it, because the position from the beginning of the Surah is for warning and threats, he followed it with what is for the believers who approached happiness by leaving behind the pleasures and turning away from the immediate desires of this world. He said, confirming for the sake of their denial: ﴿Indeed, the Book of the Righteous﴾, meaning the record of the good deeds of those who are in the utmost expansiveness in the clarity of their hearts, the breadth of their minds, the abundance of their deeds, their purity, and other than that from the virtues of their affairs. ﴿Is indeed in 'Illiyyin﴾, meaning places attributed to elevation. The attribution first occurred to an active form, then it was pluralized [and although it has no singular form in its wording like twenty and its sisters]. Al-Kisai said: When the Arabs pluralize what they do not consider to have a base from one and two, they gather with the waw and noon in the masculine and feminine. - This ends - So, they are ascending degrees that rise to Allah and do not obstruct (p-326) from Him as the punishment of the wretched does, some above [others] to that which has no end according to the ranks of deeds. And whoever's record is from the righteous in a place will be joined with it, just as whoever's record is from the wicked in Sijjin will be joined with it. Al-Razi said in Al-Lawami: Whoever's knowledge has advanced beyond the senses and illusions, and their actions beyond the demands of desire and anger, is truly deserving to be elevated. And whoever's knowledge and perception are limited to the senses, imagination, and illusions, and their actions are according to the demands of animalistic desires, is truly deserving to be in Sijjin.
