Commentary
And when he established for him the conveying of sin, he indicated it by his saying with the tool of verification: "When it is recited." That is, from any reciter it may be, elevated by what it has of proofs. "Our signs are upon him," meaning the signs indicating what is intended to be clarified to him, along with what it has of greatness in relation to us. "He said," meaning without hesitation or contemplation, but with the share of his soul that led him to the desire for dominance, which was caused by arrogance: "Legends of the ancients," meaning from falsehoods and not the words of Allah. Thus, due to his extreme ignorance, he did not benefit from the evidences of transmission, just as he did not look into the proofs of reason.
