Commentary

And when it shone with this brightness of the sun, that He is the Mighty in power over all that He wills, he produced his saying, commenting with "He created": ﴿In whatever form He wills, He creates you﴾ from the forms that you know and those that you do not know among the animals and birds and others [from the creatures-], and when the intention was to establish the meaning to the utmost degree of establishment, he affirmed the negation in the context of affirmation so that the opposite of what the words affirmed would be negated, and thus the stability of the meaning would be to the utmost [of-] strength that cannot be exceeded. [He said-]: ﴿Whatever He wills, He creates you﴾ meaning He formed the composition of your limbs and gathered the soul to the body. Al-Tabarani narrated in his three collections with trustworthy men from Malik ibn al-Huwayrith, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "When Allah, glorified and exalted is He, intends to create a soul, and the man has intercourse with the woman, his water travels in [every-] vein and nerve from her. So when the seventh day comes, Allah brings forth every vein between him and Adam, then [he recited-] ﴿In whatever form He wills, He creates you﴾." It becomes clear from this that man is a servant of a necessary servitude, and whoever removes the bond of that necessary servitude is left to himself and perishes.
