Commentary
And when he mentioned these two descriptions that indicate the two perfections, with majesty, it indicated them by affirming them through the abundance of generosity in upbringing, by the description of beauty with honor, so that a person does not think, due to what he has of tyranny, that he is free and the owner of himself, doing as he wishes. He said: ﴿He who created you﴾ [meaning He brought you into existence from nothing, prepared for the estimation of the limbs]. ﴿Then He fashioned you﴾ after those stages by shaping the limbs and functions through action. ﴿Then He made you upright﴾, meaning He made everything from that sound and endowed it with the power of the benefits for which Allah created it. He adjusted the temperament even before the form, and the adjustment made the structure proportionate in creation. Likewise, the adjustment in the reading of the Kufans with leniency [meaning -] so that it does not distort the creation and make the form ugly, and He made you upright in your form. All of this necessitates the utmost gratitude and fear of Him if one disobeys, for just as He has the power to make things equal, He has the power to distort and other forms of punishment.
