Commentary
And when the exaltation and the expression by description made clear the encompassing knowledge of what arises from actions, He stated it explicitly by saying: ﴿They know﴾ meaning continuously and persistently ﴿what you do﴾ meaning you renew your actions of good and evil with steadfast determination and sincere intention, whether it is based on knowledge or not. So how could there be, with this, a denial of recompense for the smallest particle or the tiniest atom? Is the counting of the weights of the smallest particles of your deeds mere play? And have you not known of a king who has subjects and leaves them as aimless, not holding them accountable for what is in their hands [and what they have done]? And for the sake of their denial of the religion, the meaning that necessitates this has been emphasized - which is the matter of the guardians to the utmost degree of emphasis. The expression in the future indicates that they know all that arises in the heart and comes to mind before they act. As for what does not occur in the soul [he mentioned], they do not know it, as clarified by the hadith: "And whoever intends to do a good deed but does not do it, write it down for him as a good deed."
