Commentary

And when he mentioned the creatures that indicate the intention of a great matter, close to that matter by making it clear that it is the gathering, and indicated its generality by mentioning what one might think is neglected, he said: ﴿And when the wild beasts﴾ meaning the beasts of the land that do not feel at ease with anyone, which one might think have no significance and no attention is paid to them. So what do you think of others? ﴿Were gathered﴾ meaning they were resurrected and gathered from every direction forcibly for the purpose of presenting them to the greatest King and for the judgment between them in their own selves until retribution is taken for the horned from the hornless, and between them and others as well, until the sparrow is asked by its killer, 'Why did you kill it?' Qatadah said: Everything will be gathered for retribution, even the fly - this is the end. And the wild beast does not feel fear from the people, nor do the people feel fear from the wild beasts due to the severity of the horrors, and that is more terrifying, more frightening, and more dreadful. Al-Qushayri said: It is not far-fetched that this will be by delivering benefits to them as a permissibility, not an obligation, as the people of innovation have said - this is the end. And everything in this world will be present in that abode. So when the judgment occurs, the wicked will be placed in Hell as an increase in the punishment of its inhabitants, and the good will be placed in Paradise as an increase in the bliss of its inhabitants.
