Commentary
And when the madman does not establish what he hears or what he sees in truth, the estimation after this denial is: he has indeed heard from our Messenger to him what he was sent with, in truth of hearing, without any confusion of truth with falsehood. He turned to inform about raising his status in the vision of what others have not seen, and his trustworthiness and existence. He said: ﴿And indeed, he saw him﴾ meaning the one sent to him, which is Jibril, blessings and peace be upon him, in his true form on the night of the Isra and at Arafat, combining the sense of hearing with the sense of sight ﴿in the clear horizon﴾ meaning the highest one which is at the Sidrat al-Muntaha, where there is no confusion at all, nor can any devil have a way to that place. Thus, he recognized him with true recognition. Al-Baydawi said: at the rising of the highest sun - meaning it is the source of lights, and the horizon is the direction that surpasses and rises.
