Commentary
Then He replaced it with the greatest of them and said: ﴿The moving stars﴾, meaning the celestial bodies that hide and disappear during the day under the light of the sun, from the hiding of the wild animals - when it enters its hiding place, which is its home made of tree branches. Al-Razi said: The celestial body hides and conceals itself from the lower ones at the conjunctions, just as the deer conceal themselves in the hiding places. Qatadah said: It moves at night and hides during the day, so it is concealed and not seen. This was also narrated from Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. Al-Baghawi said: The origin of hiding is returning to behind, and the hiding places are where it retreats to its hiding spots. Al-Qushayri said: This refers to its setting, and He negated swearing by it because, although it is great in itself due to what He, glorified and exalted is He, has associated with it of benefits, and you glorify it and exaggerate in it, it contains the deficiencies of disappearance and the dazzling of light. The Quran, which is sworn by for its sake, is free from that; rather, it is dominant over all other speech. Its dominance is greater than the dominance of the light of the sun over the light of other stars. Therefore, it is not fitting to swear by it for its sake.
