And when the context is for intimidation, it is more appropriate for the end of 'Abasa to be for the disbelievers. The greatest of what the disbelievers have in their deeds after associating partners with Allah and denying the truth is the denial of the Qur'an. That denial is what has gathered all disgrace for the denier in His saying, "Killed is man; how ungrateful he is!" [Abasa: 17], which the entire context is for. The denier has deserved that because denial of it places one in every hardship, while there is nothing more evident than it in that it is the speech of Allah due to its eloquence and the gathering of rulings and knowledge that no one can gather in that manner and arrange it in that arrangement except Allah. Furthermore, beyond all of that, it is miraculous. The cause of this threat is His saying, swearing by what indicates the great status of that which He swears by, leaving off swearing by things that are of majesty and greatness in the highest position: "So I swear not by the planets..." meaning for the truth of the Qur'an, for the matter in it is sufficient without an oath due to the intensity of its clarity and the spread of its light. For this reason, He pointed to defects that befall these things that He mentioned, and the Qur'an is free from any blemish of deficiency, for it is the speech of the Most High King. He said: "By the retreating stars," meaning the stars that delay their rising after the rising of the sun, so they disappear in the daytime due to the predominance of the sunlight over them. They are the stars of the constellations that they used to glorify in relation to the rains and mercy that Allah sends down to them. They said: And they are the moon, then 'Utarid, then Venus, then the sun, then Mars, then Jupiter, then Saturn. Some of them have composed it in a connected manner, saying:

Saturn bought his Mars from his sun, So it shone for 'Utarid's moons.
