And when this indicates the generality of the question, he mentioned what arises from it that indicates either bliss or punishment, and he said: ﴿And when the scrolls﴾, meaning the papers in which the deeds of the servants are written ﴿are spread﴾, meaning they are distributed, opened in a great opening to their owners in the easiest manner. The happy one will come to his right from the direction of his face in a way that will be a glad tidings for him, and the wretched one will come from behind his back and to his left after it had been [folded] at his death. And it will be spread like the movement of mountains and their flying. So whoever believes that his record is established, it will either lead him to ruin or save him; he has not placed in it except good words, deeds, or beliefs.
