Commentary
And when the wife, who is deserving of companionship, is closest to the heart and most deeply rooted in affection, and when a person turns away from her in times of distress, he said: "and his companion." And perhaps he singled her out to indicate that she holds the highest rank with him in love, such that he does not become accustomed to anyone else.
And when the father has for the child a love and affection, and a permission in secrecy and consultation in matters that he does not have for anyone else, and for this reason, his sustenance and life may be wasted upon him, he said: "and his sons." Even if it includes the small one, for whom he is more concerned, and the large one, who is more esteemed in his heart and more honorable in his eyes, and between them, there are males and females.
