Commentary
And when he was rebuked after detailing what he has of the signs within himself, and he pointed to what he has of deficiencies, he began to establish evidence of his shortcoming by stating that he cannot express gratitude for the blessing of the Bestower in what he has of the sustenance by which he sustains himself. So how about other than it, in a manner indicating the manifestation of the signs of the horizons, alerting to all other blessings during the duration of his existence, which necessitates the continuity of his need for his Lord. So he said, causing this to happen: 'Let man look.' This means he should direct his complete gaze towards everything he is capable of looking at with his sight and insight, and he extended the scope. He said: 'to his food,' meaning his sustenance and what is connected to it, turning towards it entirely, considering what is in it of the lessons, of which is that if We had not facilitated it for him, he would have perished.
