'When the blind man came to him.' He should be treated with great kindness and honored, compensating for his brokenness and acknowledging his right in coming. He was mentioned by description to indicate his excuse for interrupting the speech and to incite compassion for him and mercy towards him. The Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, would say when he saw him afterward: 'Welcome to the one whom my Lord admonished me about.' He appointed him as a deputy in the noble city during his two campaigns. Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said: 'I saw him on the day of Al-Qadisiyyah wearing armor and carrying a black banner, may Allah be pleased with him.'
