Commentary
Then he responded, indicating that the answer is clear and does not require any pause at all. He said, clarifying its insignificance: ﴿From a drop﴾ meaning very little water, not from anything else. ﴿He created him﴾ meaning He brought him into existence, predetermined according to what he is in terms of planning. ﴿Then He fashioned him﴾ meaning He prepared him for what is suitable of the visible and hidden organs, forms, and stages. Then He made him in three darknesses: the darkness of the abdomen, then the womb, then the placenta. Or, as the anatomists have said, there are three membranes: one of them is the placenta, which connects to the navel of the fetus and provides it with nourishment; the second receives its urine; and the third receives the vapors that rise from it, akin to sweat and dirt in the bodies of the complete beings. And He granted him the ability for what He wanted from him.
