Commentary

﴿So you are about him﴾ meaning specifically in that gathering due to his presence. ﴿He becomes preoccupied﴾ meaning he becomes occupied for the sake of those nobles, (p-256) those whom you want to embrace Islam for the elevation of the religion with them. This preoccupation is a slight distraction as indicated by the omission of the 'taa' from 'lahaa' meaning he became preoccupied with him like 'radiyā' - if he becomes distracted and neglects and leaves. In this expression, there is an indication that engaging with those people is of no benefit according to what you understand from the variations of the root word. And that whoever aims at a person and bypasses the necks of the people to him has a great right upon you. And the verse contains a mutual implication: mentioning wealth first indicates poverty secondly, and mentioning coming and meanness secondly indicates their opposites first. The secret of this warning is regarding what human nature inclines towards, which is the tendency towards the wealthy, and the underestimation of the right of the one who is coming, in great respect for the mere act of coming.
