Commentary
And when the types of believers advanced: the emigrant, the supporter, and the one who remains, and the mention of the rulings of their allegiance, He began to clarify their differences in virtue. He said: "And those who believed" meaning: in Allah and what has come from Him, "and emigrated" meaning: in it, those who oppose Him, preceding with His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, "and struggled" meaning: with what has preceded of wealth and soul or with one of them, "in the way of Allah" meaning: the One who has the attributes of perfection. They exerted effort in humiliating them just as the enemies exerted effort in humiliating them. And He did not mention the means of struggle because it - with the prior mention - is necessary. "And those who sheltered" meaning: those who emigrated to them, "and supported" meaning: the party of Allah. And He made clear by His saying: "Those" meaning: the first two categories specifically, "they are the true believers" meaning: the truth of faith; because they have realized their faith: the emigrant by detaching from everything he loves of worldly matters, and the supporter from all the people of disbelief by sheltering the people of Allah and supporting them.
And when He clarified their description, He clarified what He has granted them by saying: indicating that man is a place of deficiency. So he - even if he strives until he is among the highest division - does not cease from encountering what he needs forgiveness for: "For them is forgiveness" meaning: for their lapses and mistakes; because the nature of man is based on the necessary incapacity that leads to shortcomings even if he strives. And the religion is strong, so no one will challenge it except that it overcomes him. And when He mentioned their purification with forgiveness, He mentioned their sanctification with mercy by saying: "And provision" meaning: from the spoils and others in this world and the Hereafter, "noble" meaning: there is no impurity in it in any way, neither in its cutting nor in its deficiency nor in anything concerning it.
