And when the decree was: If they believe you and accept - the glad tidings of Allah, He fulfilled for them. He then referred to His saying: ﴿And if they intend﴾ meaning: the captives and the disbelievers, all of them or one of them like Abu 'Azza. ﴿Your betrayal﴾ meaning: and you are the highest of creation in a covenant of Islam or otherwise, they bind him for you, which you are pleased with in favoring one of them, without ransom. Allah prevents the consequence of that from returning to them, so it may be possible from them. So do not fear their matter. ﴿For they have betrayed Allah﴾ meaning: the greatest King; and when their betrayal was not extensive in time, He included the neighbor and said: ﴿Previously﴾ meaning: before this time with disbelief and other types of wickedness. ﴿So He enabled﴾ meaning: so He found the possibility from them, and He limited it to indicate that they have become submissive to everyone among them. ﴿On the day of Badr﴾ because of their betrayal, so what was possible from them at the time of the betrayal will enable you from them if they intend betrayal; for indeed Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. ﴿And Allah﴾ meaning: the One who encompasses everything ﴿is Knowing﴾ meaning: possessing complete knowledge, for He knows all things, including their conditions. ﴿Wise﴾ meaning: possessing profound wisdom, for He is certain of everything He wills. He weakens their plots and perfects what He counters them with, so He will certainly catch them. "And so He did, glorified is He, with Abu 'Azza al-Jumahi; for he asked the Prophet ﷺ for favoring him without anything due to his poverty and dependents, and he pledged to him that he would not assist anyone against him and praised him. Then he betrayed, so he was exposed in the battle of Hamra al-Asad after the day of Uhud as a captive. He apologized to him and asked him for forgiveness, and he said: Do not wipe your cheeks in Mecca and say: I mocked Muhammad twice, the believer is not bitten from the same hole twice. And he ordered for him, so his neck was struck." And Abu Hayyan said about betrayal: It is when some of them displayed Islam and then returned to their religion.
