And when he declared that Allah is sufficient for him, and that the sufficiency of Allah for the servant is among the greatest of objectives, the souls turned to whether He would suffice him absolutely or if He acted similarly with the believers as well. So he followed it with His saying: expressing by the description of prophethood which means elevation and insight from Allah regarding what the servants do not know; because it is in the context of informing about some of the unseen and the management of the dominion: ﴿O Prophet﴾ meaning: the one of high status, of whom we are informed about the outcomes of his affairs ﴿Sufficient for you﴾ meaning: sufficient for you ﴿is Allah﴾ meaning: the One in whose hand is all things ﴿and whoever﴾ meaning: with whom ﴿follows you from the believers﴾ it is permissible that the companionship is from his pronoun ﷺ so that the believers are sufficed, and it may be from the majesty so that they are sufficient, until the meaning is: He is sufficient for them as well and they are sufficient for you; because He is with them. And He, glorified and exalted is He, conveyed this thus to comfort their hearts and to mend their thoughts, and by the second meaning: for it to include the first and to add to it - Ibn Zayd and Al-Sha'bi said: (p-320) Sufficient for you is Allah and sufficient for you is whoever follows you, and He, glorified and exalted is He, conveyed it in a repeated manner for the sufficiency of His Prophet ﷺ, allowing that among those who were following him at that time is a sufficiency so that they do not feel independent in relation to the multitude of their enemies.
