Commentary
Then he stated clearly the triviality of their plotting and said: "And if they intend" meaning: the disbelievers "to deceive you" meaning: with what they bring about of the peace or otherwise. "Then Allah is enough for you" meaning: sufficient for you is "Allah" meaning: the One who possesses all attributes of might. Then he explained his sufficiency or began to clarify it with his saying: "He is" meaning: alone "the One who supported you with His victory" meaning: when you were alone "and with the believers" meaning: after that in this battle, which was usually determined by the fact that those with you would not stand against the disbelievers for the length of a camel's stride. Perhaps this is a reminder of what was the situation at the beginning of Islam, meaning: indeed, the One who sent you alone in Mecca among all the disbelievers and your estrangement among them - even though they were your relatives - because of your call to this religion and your rising above their animalistic conditions to the noble morals, is the One who strengthened you alone with victory over them until they could not inflict any harm that would deter you from calling to Allah, despite all of their setting traps for you and your followers and their extending hands of plotting against you. Then He saved you from among their midst as one pulls a hair from dough despite their efforts to prevent you from that. And He supported you with the helpers and united their words after severe enmity.
