And when he commanded him regarding what to do with one whose breach of trust was confirmed, he guided him on what to do with one whom he feared treachery from, saying: "And if you fear..." He emphasized this by indicating the appearance of signs and the clarity of indications "from a people" meaning: those of strength, with whom you have a covenant "treachery" meaning: in that covenant "then throw it away" meaning: discard it as one who is disdainful and contemptuous "to them" meaning: that covenant, discarding it in a manner that is "on equal terms" meaning: a matter that is equal in knowledge of its termination between you and them, and fairness and justice. And do not confront them while they are under the illusion of the continuation of the covenant. This indicates that they should be extremely cautious and investigate the news of the enemy, such that they do not leave it until it breaches, then they know of its inclination towards breach, and then they discard their covenant with him; for that is more deterrent to him, as it is more conducive to peace. Then he justified the permissibility of discarding and the necessity of fairness by saying: "Indeed, Allah" meaning: He who possesses the attributes of perfection "does not love the treacherous" meaning: He does not act towards them in the manner of one who loves, neither from you nor from others.
