Commentary

And when he fulfilled what he was cutting in the right of those from their own selves and from the adornment of Satan, he replaced it with what was to be cut in their right from the people of ignorance of Allah and of His past days and His signs with His allies and His enemies. He said: ﴿When the hypocrites say﴾ meaning: from the Arabs and the Children of Israel a saying they renew every time due to their desire in it. ﴿And those in their hearts is a disease﴾ meaning: from those whose faith has not taken root in their hearts, from those who believed and did not emigrate, or from the Jews who openly declare disbelief when they see the disbelievers and their strength and multitude, and the believers and their weakness and fewness: ﴿These have deceived﴾ indicating to you ﴿their religion﴾ meaning: in their eagerness to what will lead to their destruction, thinking that Allah will support them, while they are three hundred and a few more to nearly a thousand kings of the Arabs. This will provoke you, so Allah has denied them and confirmed your matter by your reliance upon Him and your patience upon your religion. ﴿And whoever﴾ meaning: those who said that knowing that you rely upon Him and He has made you patient upon your religion. ﴿And whoever﴾ meaning: those who said that knowing that you rely upon the One to whom you submit, while the case is that whoever ﴿relies upon Allah﴾ meaning: the One who has complete encompassing power, He does what He wills from you and from others, on the condition of faith and striving in obedience as you have done, for He is the One who honors and elevates.

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, is encompassing every attribute of perfection absolutely without the constraint of reliance or anything else, He manifested, exalted is He, saying, in connection with His decree: So indeed Allah is capable of granting victory: ﴿So indeed Allah﴾ meaning: the One who has absolute perfection ﴿is Mighty﴾ meaning: prevailing over all who oppose Him, so He is deserving of granting victory ﴿Wise﴾ meaning: precise in His actions; He is truly deserving to take the enemy of the one who relies upon Him from the place where no stratagem will benefit him.
