And when he mentioned their plotting against the Messenger, he mentioned their plotting against that which he was sent with. He said, emphasizing on "When you are" [Al-Anfal: 26] "And when Our verses are recited to them," meaning: from any reciter, it was prescribed "upon them are Our verses," meaning: which are the criterion, in majesty and greatness, they did not claim it affects them in that situation. Rather, they said, showing their obstinacy towards it and their following of what they were not given and claiming what they would not attain, "Indeed, we have heard." And when their hearing did not lead to submission, the listener longed to know the reason for their turning away, so he said, explaining or beginning anew: "If We wished," meaning: at any time We wanted, "We could have said something like this," meaning: because it is not the saying of Allah as Muhammad claims. "Indeed, this" means: what is recited to you "is nothing but tales of the ancients," the plural of 'sutur' and 'asṭār,' the plural of 'satr,' meaning: from the children of Adam, who wrote in it their knowledge and news, and it is of the same kind as our words, and its speaker is of our kind. This is the height of denial; because he challenged them with a piece like it if he has - as they claim - something similar. And he was severe in reproaching them, so what prevented them from presenting something of what they claim, and there is nothing between them and him according to their claim except that they wish to. With their transition to the most severe matters: the destructive sword upon their recklessness towards his ﷺ oppression and upon what they have of excessive pride from disgrace and distance from what would lead to their defeat or that they be described as liars - except their knowledge that this would expose them and disgrace them for eternity and their disgraceful acts. The meaning is: I affirm this noble Prophet upon his patience towards that and his perseverance in fulfilling the trust by striving in advising despite what he faces. If I save him from them and protect him from all that they plotted against him, I would continue to support him by following those whom I know to be good until I prepared for him a home and concealed for him supporters. I made his home among the companions fortified, and I built for it pillars with the swords of the beloved, firm and lofty. I transferred him to that despite the striving of the people of obstinacy, who are all the people of the earth in prevention, so their plotting did not affect, nor did it benefit them with the hands of their hands. I made the very act of his transfer a criterion by which to distinguish between truth and falsehood. He reached what you see of acceptance of the command, the majesty of the status, and the decisiveness in separating between matters, and his religion appeared in any appearance. They adhered to piety as he adhered to it and they continued in obedience as he continued in it. I grant you from his leadership and carry you with the garments of his imamate.
