Commentary
And when He described them with the faith that leads to obedience and the reliance that gathers them, which drives them away from it, transitioning from the actions of the inner self to the actions of the outer self, clarifying that their aspiration is indeed worship and noble deeds: ﴿Those who establish prayer﴾ meaning: they do not cease from renewing that; and since it is a connection between the creation and the Creator, He followed it with the connection between the creatures, saying: ﴿And from what We have provided them﴾ meaning: despite Our greatness, it is for Us and not for them ﴿they spend﴾ and even if they are few, relying on what is with Us, for their aim is spending and belittling the worldly life, not being greedy for it. At that time, they will be like those who are with your Lord in adorning themselves with worship and detaching themselves from the world, turning away and renouncing it. This is a reminder of the description of the righteous mentioned at the beginning of the Book with His saying: ﴿Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided them﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 3].
