Commentary
That is the great matter, far-reaching and encompassing, in which He commanded you with His commands and forbade you from His prohibitions. He tested you with a good trial in it and showed you with your own eyes the weakening of this group that targeted you while you were among them like the eaters of a camel and a sparrow in front of eagles. He clarified to you the reasons for that and the wonders of His decree, such that there remains no excuse for a believer. So adhere to His obedience and hasten in the obedience of His Messenger, and do not look at the outcome of anything He commands you with. For indeed, He does not speak from desire, but rather He commands on our behalf. And we did not command anything except after planning it in the most prudent and perfect manner. And that is to say: and the matter also is that Allah, the possessor of all attributes of might and greatness, is a weakening, meaning He weakens with a severe and permanent weakening forever the plot of the disbelievers, those firmly rooted in disbelief. So do not weaken in seeking the people, even if you are struck with a wound, for indeed we make it a purification for you and for the disbelievers a destruction. And the outcome is for the righteous. We will inform you of their weaknesses and cast terror into their hearts, and we will divide their unity and nullify what they have decreed.
