Commentary
And when he mentioned the wisdom of support and what followed it of the effects that affirm the hearts and the feet, he mentioned what was commanded by the support of affirmation by word and action. He said: ﴿When﴾ as a third alternative to: "When He promises you" or as a circumstance to affirm ﴿Your Lord inspires﴾ meaning: the Benefactor towards you with all of that ﴿to the angels﴾. He clarified that victory is from Him and not from the support by His saying: ﴿Indeed, I am with you﴾ meaning: and whoever I am with will be victorious in all that he hopes for. ﴿So affirm﴾ meaning: because of that ﴿those who have believed﴾ meaning: by types of affirmation such as increasing their numbers, strengthening their hearts, fighting their enemies, diminishing them in their eyes, and belittling their status. Then he clarified the companionship by His saying: ﴿I will cast﴾ meaning: with a promise that there is no contradiction in it ﴿into the hearts of those who disbelieve﴾ meaning: they have established disbelief ﴿terror﴾ so they will have no stability. ﴿So strike﴾ meaning: O believers, from the angels and humans, without fear because of that. (p-238) And when striking the neck and the head is a signal of destruction for a person, and the neck is often concealed in battle, he expressed it by saying: ﴿Above the necks﴾ meaning: the heads or the tops of their necks, as they are joints and slaughter points.
And when corrupting the fingers is the most harmful after that because it nullifies the fighting of the struck one or completes his fighting, he said: ﴿And strike from them every fingertip﴾ meaning: for there is no prohibition against that because I am with you.
