Commentary

And when he swore to uphold those great actions that only the King, the All-Knowing, is capable of. He mentioned what would be in it of signs, emphasizing the matter of the Hour, because the tangible souls are prone to distraction. The unseen is forgotten and multiplied in their view. He said, indicating the context with that omitted part, because of its clarity being like what is expressed: ﴿The Day the quaking﴾ meaning it shakes with a great, disturbing shaking. ﴿The quaking﴾ meaning the sound, and it is the first blast, which reaches to the extent that due to the intensity of its shaking, it affects the hearts and all the still things from the earth and the mountains to the extraction of the souls from all the inhabitants of the earth - a magnitude that deserves to be described as intense shaking. Al-Baghawi said: The origin of the quaking is sound and movement.
