Commentary
And when a thing cannot be known in its extent if it is absent except by what is in it, he said, changing from it: "On the Day when he will remember" [meaning] a great and evident remembrance - by what the manifestation indicates. "Mankind" means the created beings who are heedless of what they were created for. "What he strove for" means all of his deeds, whether good or evil, because he will see it in the record of his deeds. The mention of his remembrance is a reminder of what is in that [Day] of danger, for no one exerts effort in his remembrance except out of need for that, which is the reckoning and its recording in the record of his deeds.
