Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, summarized what has passed of His stories in these simple words, He did so in the best summary and the closest manner, without contradicting anything from what has passed. This is because the detailed account is the place of abbreviation. As for the consideration of the revelation, it was revealed first, so the approximation of the stories for the people by limiting it to what is necessary is preferable for them to become familiar with it. As for the aspect of arrangement, it is to remind them of what has passed, so that it gathers in the imagination in the closest time, and they remember thereby that which is elaborated. He concluded it with this strange approach. He guided to what is in the story of the lesson, indicating the necessity of recalling all that has passed. He said, confirming and affirming for the disbeliever and warning the believer: "Indeed, in that," meaning the great matter which He did and that which He did with it, "is a lesson," meaning a matter that is significant, intended for reflection from one meaning to another until it leads to many of the knowledge. "For whoever fears," meaning concerning him is the great fear of Allah, for indeed, fear, as has been mentioned, is the foundation of goodness. The first of the crossings is that the listener transfers the state of others to himself, so he remembers the salvation of the Children of Israel despite their weakness against their strength. Then with the strength of what happened to them from the oppression of that until it necessitated their following with the armies, then with the parting of the sea, then with their being led into it, then with their drowning in it like the blink of an eye. No one among them emerged as a reporter of Allah's power, glorified and exalted is He, over bringing the disbelievers to the fire and overpowering every tyrant, and by making the staff alive, and bringing forth the lice and frogs from the earth, and turning the water into blood. His power, glorified and exalted is He, over that is evident to the listener through the punishment and others, and particularly concerning resurrection - and other than that from the clear lessons.
