Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, informed about him with this vile word that disparages the king, and since kings cannot tolerate that in any way, He caused it and followed His saying: ﴿So Allah seized him﴾ meaning the king who has no equal and no authority for anyone with him seized in humiliation and disgrace, being punished: ﴿a punishment of the Hereafter﴾. It is a source from the meaning, meaning a punishment that serves as an example to which everyone who hears it should adhere and be admonished, like the state of Pharaoh. He presented it with concern for its matter and as a reference to the greatness of its punishment, which is greater, and a human does not taste it except by the removal of the worldly veil through death. And a reminder that the prevention of such a claim to the truth is possible, and this is not for the separation, for if it were said: 'the other one,' it would correspond to ﴿and the first﴾, meaning the punishment of this world which is before the Hereafter. For whoever heard the story of his drowning and all that happened to him, that was a punishment preventing anyone from doing like him or less than that. Al-Dhahhak said: As for in this world, Allah drowned him, glorified and exalted is He, and cast him on a shore from the earth. As for in the Hereafter, Allah will admit him into the Fire and make him visible on a mound of it, bound and restrained, calling out: 'This one who claimed lordship without Allah.' It has ended. And I do not doubt that Al-Hallaj, Ibn Arabi, and Ibn al-Farid, and their followers will be in the Fire under them and under their idols, drinking their essence. For they claimed that he is saved and believed him in what he claimed and claimed for themselves and others something like what he claimed, denying the Qur'an and indulging in transgression. And they added to it by misusing the Greatest Name, which Allah protected from anyone claiming it before the sending of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, so they claimed that it applies to them and to everyone, rather to everything. And the sign of this wicked group that does not fail to say to one of them: 'Curse Pharaoh,' who is universally cursed by all groups. And it is a parable for them in wickedness and malice, so he does not curse him, and indeed his cursing is after a pause.
