And when he indicated to him the purity from polytheism, he followed it with the deeds and said: "And I guide you," meaning I clarify for you after the purification with the faith which is the foundation: how to proceed "to your Lord," meaning the One who created you, and the Benefactor to you, and the Nurturer of you by informing you of what pleases Him from the deeds and what angers Him from the traits after you have reached in this world the utmost of hopes. "So you fear," meaning it will result from that that you will begin to perform the deeds of one who fears His punishment with great fear, so you will fulfill the obligatory acts and abandon the prohibited things and all that is forbidden, thus you will ascend to the highest ranks of purification and combine the sovereignty of the Hereafter with the sovereignty of this world. For indeed, fear is what drives to every good, and security is what leads to evil.
