Commentary
So say to him, detailing some of what has preceded in 'Ta-Ha' regarding the gentleness of speech and the kindness of invitation in addressing: 'Do you have any inclination or need to purify yourself?' This means to adorn yourself with virtues and to cleanse yourself from vices, even if it is with the least types of purification: the apparent and inner purity that leads to growth and abundance. Understanding the least by what indicates it is the dropping of the letter of the verb form that implies alleviation, and this is by submitting which necessitates faith and sending the Children of Israel. The people of Hijaz and Ya'qub read with emphasis, meaning a profound purification, for whoever enters into purification at the hands of a complete one, especially a prophet from those of strong resolve, is likely to reach the ultimate in purity.
