Commentary

'When' means at the time 'his Lord called him' that is, the Benefactor towards him, by creating him, bringing him near, and managing him. He commanded his sending and determining 'to the sacred valley' that is, the most purified, to the utmost degree of purification, by Allah's honoring him with the sending of prophethood, which bestows blessings. Then it was clarified by His saying: 'Tuwa,' which is the place where evil was removed from the Children of Israel and from whom Allah intended from His creation. He spread the blessings of prophethood over all the people of the earth who are Muslim by their Islam, and others by lifting the punishment of extermination from them. For the scholars said: The punishment of the grave - that is, the punishment of extermination - was lifted when the Torah was revealed. And it is a valley in the mountain between Aila and Egypt.
