Commentary
(p-217) Surah An-Nazi'at, also known as Al-Sahirah and Al-Tammah. Its purpose is to clarify the end of man's affair by swearing an oath about the resurrection of mankind, and the occurrence of the Day of Gathering and the slipping of feet, after the complete explanation in what has preceded from these great Surahs. This serves as a warning that the matter has reached a level of appearance that there is no level beyond it. It depicted this by the taking of souls by the hands of the noble angels. Then, it mentions the matter of the accursed Pharaoh and Moses, peace be upon him. Its name, An-Nazi'at, is clear in this regard. When one reflects on the division and its known answer for the eminent leaders, as well as Al-Sahirah and Al-Tammah when one contemplates the context, and the arrangement has been established in confirming the agreement ('In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful') the Sovereign, the All-Knowing, (the Most Gracious) who has encompassed with His grace, (the Most Merciful) who has specifically honored the people of His guardianship with completeness, so they are distinguished with honor in the Abode of Peace. * * When He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned the Day when the spirit will stand and the disbeliever will wish for non-existence, He first swore an oath by the taking of souls in the manner He mentioned by the hands of the angels, peace be upon them, regarding what they will be affected by from the resurrection. He presented it in a manner of emphasis with the oath because they are denying it. So He, the Exalted, said: 'And those who violently pull out the soul' meaning from the angels - as Ali and Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, said - for the souls and for themselves from their centers in the heavens, in obedience to the divine commands. 'With force' meaning drowning with a strong power that penetrates to the utmost intention of everything from the body, even the hair, the nails, and the bones, just as the one who pulls out reaches the utmost extent of the pull. This was for the souls of the disbelievers and the sinners, just as the iron tool, which is the branching metal that is opposite to the fibers of the wet wool, pulls out. Ibn Jarir mentioned, as is his habit in everything that the wording can bear, and he said: and the correct statement is that Allah, the Exalted, did not specify, so every pulling out is included in His oath - meaning the consideration of what Allah has given them of the ability to do that pulling out, indicating the completeness of wisdom and the power to do what He, glorified and exalted is He, wants.
