Commentary
And when the absence of their hope indicated their denial, which corrupts the scientific strength, he stated it in a more general manner, saying: "And they denied Our signs," meaning regarding their greatness that indicates they are from Us. "A liar," meaning their denial is in the utmost exaggeration, to the extent that if they heard the most false of lies, they would not deny it as they denied it. Thus, their forcing themselves to drink what no one should drink - even if one were to drink a little of it, he would die instantly without any other death - for them is a reward for their denial with the flames that they force the truthful to drink of various types of burning. And it was recited with leniency to indicate that they denied in their denial.
