Commentary
(p-189) Surah 'Amma Yatasa'aloon, also called Al-Naba'
Its purpose is to indicate that the Day of Resurrection, which they were united in denying, has become firmly established after the sending of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in a dispute about it with the believers. It is established with a certainty that does not allow for doubt or disagreement in any way. This is because the Creator of creation, although He is Wise and Able to do what He wills, has arranged for them the best arrangement. He built for them a dwelling and perfected it. He made them in a way that preserves their kind from themselves, such that they do not need an external matter that they see. This was more intense for their familiarity and greater for the comfort of some of them with others. He made their ceiling and bedding sufficient for their benefits. The Wise does not leave His servants, while He is fully capable and complete in authority, to rejoice while some of them oppress others, consume His provisions, and worship others without accountability. So how if He is a Ruler, and how if He is the Most Wise of the rulers? This is something that is not permissible in reason nor has it ever crossed anyone's mind. Knowledge certainly confirms it. Each of its names is clear in that by reflecting on its verses and the principle of its mention and its goal. (In the name of Allah) the Wise, the All-Knowing (p-190) who has all the attributes of perfection (the Most Gracious) who equalized between His servants in the foundations of the apparent blessings: existence, status, and wealth, and clarified the straightest path by reason, guidance, revelation, and sending (the Most Merciful) who has chosen whom He wills to complete those blessings, guiding them to good deeds. He informed them in Al-Mursalat about their denial of the Day of Judgment and ruled that for them is a multiplied and repeated woe. He concluded that if they disbelieve in this Qur'an, they will not believe in anything after it. He opened this by stating that what they opposed and denied the Messenger concerning does not accept dispute due to the clarity of the Qur'an in the wisdom of the Most Gracious, in which two disagree with the miracle in the expression. He said, amazed at them to the utmost degree, reproaching them and denying them, warning them and emphasizing the matter with the form of questioning, alerting that it should not be understood that their disagreement is rational, nor should the place of their dispute be recognized. Therefore, everyone should ask about it, even the knowledgeable about it, to inform that what they disagree about, due to its clarity, cannot be believed that a rational person would oppose its command, and that questioning should not be except about what is hidden. So He said:
* *﴿Amma﴾ meaning about what - he softened the wording and used a metaphor by merging, and omitted its alif due to the frequency of the occurrence and indicating that this question is something that should be omitted. If it is not, it should be concealed and one should be shy to mention it, and it is softened. ﴿Yatasa'aloon﴾ meaning the people of Makkah for anyone who asks (p-191) about something from the Qur'an a question of doubt and hesitation, and they were entangled in their discussions between themselves and the Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, and the believers, may Allah be pleased with them. Due to the intensity of their amazement, their argument, denial, and obstinacy - when His verses were recited to them and His clear signs were made evident - was called an absolute question.
