Commentary
And when the reality was that after the separation, each one was in his abode, [and it had begun] with the disbelievers because the warning in the Surah is greater. So He separated them from the believers and said: 'Go away' - until the end of it. Then He repeated with their opposites, the saved group referred to at the end of Al-Insan by His saying: ﴿He admits whom He wills into His mercy﴾ [Al-Insan: 31]. He said, confirming for the sake of the disbelievers' denial of that abode and that the believers would be happier than them: ﴿Indeed, the righteous﴾ meaning those who would place between themselves and everything that angers Allah a protection from what pleases Him due to their deep-rootedness in this description on the Day of Resurrection ﴿In shades﴾ which are in reality the shades [not] like the shade of smoke, nor do they resemble the highest shade in this world or the best of it except by name. And it indicated [that] it is in its reality by His saying: ﴿and rivers﴾ because they will have gardens and great trees [as indicated] just as that sprawling shade is a mockery of what He mentioned afterwards of the descriptions of the Fire. So these rivers cool the inner being and the shaded trees grow just as the flame scorches the outer and inner being and destroys whatever comes near it from trees and others, so nothing remains and nothing is spared.
