Commentary

Indeed, this, meaning that which has preceded of all the rewards, was a fixed state for you by My creating it before your death. It is a recompense for your deeds in which you used to strive against your souls from following its desires to that which pleases your Lord. So whenever you performed an action, I created from this what is a reward for it. And it was upon the basis of stability. And since the intended goal is acceptance, for the grateful acceptor is what is acted upon, His saying was built for the object: 'gratefully acknowledged,' meaning that he does not waste anything of it and is rewarded with more than it in multiplied rewards.
