Commentary
And when the decree is a definite indication of what all that has passed guides to, as a response to the oath: "Indeed, by Allah, you are truthful in your warning, so it must be sounded in the trumpet by blowing in the horn." He said, building upon this after pointing to the greatness of the matter of the Resurrection by what is indicated by the omission of the response, that it is in the clarity of the matter and the necessity of the existence in a state that is not hidden from anyone, denying anyone who doubts it after that: "Does man think?" This refers to this type that accepts [the idea of] humanity by itself and the observation of its inclination and the joy according to it. He attributed the action to the entire type because most of them are like that due to the predominance of desires over reason, except for whom Allah has protected. "That" means: I.
And when there are among them those who exaggerate in denial, he also expressed it with an emphatic tool and said: "We will not gather" meaning: upon what we have of greatness, "his bones" meaning: those which are the form of his body and its support from the earth, so He will return them as they were after their being torn apart and shattered and separated and decayed and obliterated. And the softened form has sufficed as the two implied objects of "thinks" which are estimated by "He thinks of us" not being inclusive.
And Imam Abu Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr said: When his saying preceded informing about the people of disbelief: "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment" [Al-Muddathir: 46], then it preceded in the beginning of the surah his saying, exalted is He: "So when the trumpet is sounded" [Al-Muddathir: 8] to His saying: "Not easy" [Al-Muddathir: 10], and what is meant by it is the Day of Resurrection. And the warning is for whom was mentioned after in His saying: "Leave me and the one I created alone" [Al-Muddathir: 11], the verses, and whoever was in a state of denying the occurrence of that day. Then the mention of it was repeated in the response of the one who was asked by His saying: "What has brought you into Saqar?" [Al-Muddathir: 42]. So he elaborated on the mention of that day and its terrors in this surah, and it was pointed to the state of whoever denied it in His saying, exalted is He: "He asks, when is the Day of Resurrection?" [Al-Qiyamah: 6]. And in His saying, exalted is He: "Does man think that We will not gather his bones?" Then he followed that with the mention of the states of the creatures on that day: "Man will be informed on that Day of what he has brought forward and delayed" [Al-Qiyamah: 13]. This is the end.
