And the leg will be wrapped. This means that this type is joined with the leg, meaning it has come together and connected with it. One of them will turn with the other so that they are like one thing. This is a metaphor for death because walking cannot occur except with the separation of one leg from the other, or due to the severity of the matter greatly, and thereafter about salvation. The Arabs do not mention the leg in such a context except in a severe matter, like 'he rolled up his leg.' And when the spears of the combatants became severe: 'the markets drew closer to one another.' There is no separation except due to the death of one of them or something more severe than his death, which is his defeat. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that it is a metaphor for the mixing of the severity of the end of this world with the severity of the beginning of the Hereafter. The response to the conditional is omitted; its meaning is: his attachment to this world and his love for it has ceased, and he has turned away from the Hereafter.
