Commentary
﴿To her Lord﴾ means the Benefactor to her specifically, considering that counting the gaze at others is like no gaze. ﴿Gazing﴾ means they are always fixing their eyes towards His generosity with the manifestation. There is no negligence for them regarding that. When He lifts the veil from them, they will see Him with their eyes, as a proof of His generosity with the manifestation. This gaze is a direct vision without concealment, without conflict, and without crowding - as Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and most of the commentators and all the people of the Sunnah said. It has been narrated from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in authentic hadiths from many sources to the extent that it has become widely known. The vision will be as it is exemplified in the hadiths: "Just as the moon is seen on the night of the full moon." Everyone who wants to see Him from his house will be free to do so - this is the aspect of the similarity, not that He is in a direction or in a state that has a resemblance - glorified is Allah above any comparison. Likewise, the vision of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in dreams from numerous individuals in different lands at the same time. He has preceded the indication of the specialty to this gaze, differentiating it from the gaze at others, so that it is not considered a gaze in relation to Him. And that those faces are absorbed in contemplating His beauty, such that they do not cease from that, and their gaze at anything else is nothing. They are safe from being subjected to any calamity. He expressed by 'faces' about their owners because it is the clearest indication of joy. And mentioning them is clearer in that what is meant by the gaze is its reality, and its clarity is increased by the preposition 'to', for waiting is not indicated by it. Imam Al-Ghazali, may Allah have mercy on him, stated in his book of love from the Revival after he allowed that Allah may create the gaze in a direction and otherwise: the truth is what has appeared to the people of the Sunnah and the community from the evidences of the Shari'ah that this is created in the eye, so that the terms of vision, gaze, and other terms mentioned in the Shari'ah are taken literally, as it is not permissible to remove the apparent meanings except for necessity - this is the end. The people of Paradise differ in their gaze: it has been narrated that among them is one who sees Allah morning and evening. In another report, there is nothing between the people and their gazing at their Lord except the mantle of grandeur upon His face in the Garden of Eden. And they differ in the degree of unveiling in beauty, familiarity, and the joy that brings pleasure according to their deeds.
