Commentary
And when the warning is severe upon the souls, there occurs through it what death does not surpass. This is because leaving familiar things is the hardest thing for the souls, and likewise leaving benefits. He means by saying an order to adorn oneself with the protector after abandoning the destroyer. He is informing that harm from the warners is something that must occur, so one enters into obedience with insight. Therefore, the situation necessitates that the warning becomes easier by being independent of the perishing and being with the Eternal alone. He indicated this by prioritizing the deity, expressing it with the description of kindness, encouragingly saying: "And for your Lord" meaning the One who is kind to you, the nurturer for you, the manager of all your interests alone. "So be patient" [meaning] in the hardships of obligations, commands and prohibitions, and the harm of the polytheists, and the hardship of living, and all calamities. For He will generously reward you from the good of both abodes in such a way that He does not make you in need of anyone, while He makes people in need of you. And He makes it easy for you to bear the hardships in both abodes, especially the matter of the Day of Resurrection. For whoever bears the work in this world, the work will bear him in the Hereafter.
