Commentary
And when He removed them from the ruling of being mortgaged, which He deemed to lead to destruction because it is its cause, He began to explain their state by saying: ﴿In gardens﴾ meaning gardens of great magnificence because they freed themselves and emancipated their necks, so they did not become mortgaged. The verse is from the style of implication: it first affirmed the mortgage as evidence for the omission of its opposite, and secondly, it affirmed the garden as evidence for the omission of its opposite first.
And when the question about the state of others is a clear indication of comfort and freedom from all that concerns the soul, He expressed their comfort in the most noble admonition and the gentlest warning by saying: ﴿They ask each other﴾ meaning among themselves, some of them ask each other.
