Commentary
And when the purification of the servant from impurities is for the sake of the purification of the worshipped, He said, commanding the purification of the outward and the inward by completing the power of perception in glorifying Him, so that he may be suitable to be among the people of His presence. And the first command in this is for one who rejects the blameworthy habits: "And your garments purify." This means to rise and specifically purify your physical garments by keeping them away from impurities, by avoiding the habits of the arrogant in lengthening them, and by purifying them so that they may be suitable for standing in service in the sacred presence. And the inward purification includes everything that the servant possesses of blameworthy morals and corrupt habits, such as neglecting service, boredom, and indulging in some of the habits of the self. This is facilitated by completing the power of perception.
