And when this perspective is the most praiseworthy thing for the one being observed, if it does not lead to any criticism, and its apparent purpose is to seek the truth, then the insistence alongside it on falsehood is extremely distant. He indicates this by the praise and the absence of any criticism, expressing it with a tool of distance: ﴿Then﴾, meaning after this great deliberation, ﴿he turned away﴾ [meaning -] from what his thoughts led him to regarding the faith in the safety of the one being observed and its elevation above criticisms. He deviated from the aspects of thoughts to their backsides, ﴿and he was arrogant﴾, meaning [and -] he manifested arrogance against acknowledging the truth, as one who is in the utmost desire for it. This was the height of obstinacy, so the meaning of obstinate.
